BERKELEY, CA ‒ (Marketwired ‒ Dec 9, 2014) ‒ Backroads, the world’s number-one active travel company, today unveiled its top active travel locations and trends for 2015 based on early demand and booking information.

With everything from tulips and sparkling champagne to scenic rivers and rich history, European tours are on the rise for the coming year. New for 2015, Backroads is offering the following Bike Tours: Stockholm to Copenhagen, Danube River Cruising, Champagne to Alsace, and Berlin to Dresden ‒ and all trips are filling up quickly. Due to the very high interest in the River Cruise Biking tours, the 2016 booking dates for these popular itineraries and additional new destinations will open in January.

Iceland and Italy Hot Again
Iceland, a movie and TV location favorite, has become a hot travel destination again and the Backroads tours have proven to be very popular with guests. Italy is also back on the travel radar after being down last year, particularly in the lesser-known regions such as Puglia, the Italian Lakes and Cinque Terre.

National Parks Celebrate Early
Domestically, national parks continue to be favorite active travel destinations with Glacier National Park ranking as the most popular, followed by Yellowstone & Tetons. 2016 will mark the 100-year anniversary of the national park system and many guests are looking to get a jump on the expected crowds by celebrating the 99th anniversary instead.

Spring Time Travel
Closer to home, spring break destinations are trending high and include the all-new Everglades to Key West Multisport Tour ‒ one of Backroads top-selling tours for 2015; California’s “other” Wine Country getaway ‒ Santa Barbara & Ojai Valley Bike Tour, and for classic getaways the new Belize & Guatemala Multisport Tour.

Active Family Trips on the Rise
Guests love our Family Breakaway tours, designed for families with older teens or college-age kids, which allow family members flexibility in choosing their own activities. Trending for families, the most popular trips for 2015 bookings are the Dalmatian Coast, Loire Valley, Tuscany, and Holland & Belgium tours. Early family bookings also show upward trending for Latin America and Asia/Pacific destinations.

“For more than 35 years we’ve been uncovering active travel trends and taking guests on vacations across the globe,” said Backroads Founder and President Tom Hale. “Active travel has become more the norm than the exception for today’s travelers and we find that once people experience traveling actively, they don’t want to do it any other way.”

Backroads offers 250 adventure trips and is currently booking for 2015 and beyond. For complete information on Backroads 2015 trips, visit www.backroads.com.

From the Saint Pio Foundation: A biographical film on the life of Saint Padre Pio is in the works.

The film will be produced by the American actor Joe Mantegna and his long time producing partner Danny Ramm through their company Acquaviva Productions for theatrical release.

Shot in English, filmed on location in Italy and distributed worldwide, the film will highlight Padre Pio’s impact on the Catholic Church and the building of his hospital, Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza in San Giovanni Rotondo, Puglia.

Schedule permitting, Mantegna will star in the title role. A percentage of the proceeds from the film will benefit the Saint Pio Foundation and help further its work to establish medical facilities in the United States, in the charism of Saint (Padre) Pio, in order to offer medical care to those poor in need.
