SEA BEACHES,
situated along the
region's approximately 500 miles
(800 kilometers) of coastline, are
renowned throughout Europe. Many
thousands of tourists, especially
from Britain, Germany and
Scandinavia, book weeks-long stays
at beach-front resorts year after year.

Programme Jury awarded the Blue
Flag to 25 beaches in Puglia. The
Blue Flag award is based on
environmental education and
information; water quality;
environmental management; and
safety and services. The
International Blue Flag Programme,
which is owned and run by the
independent non-profit organization
Foundation for Environmental
Education (FEE). These beaches
have passed FEE's strict tests for

management.

According to FEE, the Blue Flag
Programme works toward
sustainable development at beaches
and marinas through strict criteria
dealing with water quality,
environmental education and
information, environmental
management, and safety and other
